  Chapter One

It was the open secret nobody spoke about. Savannah was a small town, small enough for everybody to know practically everything about everyone. But in the upper echelons of society, there was a buzz, a distinct vibe that nobody dared talk about openly, but which everyone knew intimately.

It had started quite innocently two summers ago, the first ones to receive the gold-leaf invite were the Hansons. Brett Hanson was getting out of his car one Saturday morning after his usual golf game, and he spotted the glistening gold in his postbox, strategically placed so that it would catch his attention. He took it, and opened it as he walked up his driveway.

‘Come Prepared To Share’ was the sinister instruction on the invitation underneath an address he knew, but wasn’t quite sure who owned the house. As far as he knew, the house had stood empty since the winter, and on this crisp spring morning he was really curious as to who might have purchased the house so quickly, and who it was that was able to splash on such lavish invitations to a party that was happening that evening.

It would take him and his wife Sarah an hour to drive to the estate that Sarah too had thought was empty. Call it rich curiosity, but the couple soon found themselves getting ready for this party, dress code black and intimate, which they found strange, but no stranger than any of the other wealthy folk in Savannah. And as they pulled onto the property, they soon realized that they weren’t the only members of Savanah’s rich that were invited.

There was Corbin and Mercia Law, Corbin was a property man. And then there was Henry and Eliza Fordsburg. Right behind them was Lex and Trudy Hewing. The eight of them knew each other from events on the town’s social calendar, and also from the country club, but they weren’t exactly friends. The closest in the group was in fact Brett and Corbin, who played golf together. They all wondered, as they walked up to the impressive front door, why such a random selection of the town’s elite, people who really had nothing but a country club membership and money in common, would be the only ones invited to meet their new neighbors.

Said neighbors were nowhere to be seen though. Corbin was the brave one, brave enough to open the large front door and go inside. He was followed closely by the others, who grew more and more anxious when they realized, all apparently at the same time, that they were alone in the house. This was very strange indeed.

“What do you think’s going on here?” Lex asked eventually, so loud that his voice echoed in the sparsely furnished house, shocking not only his wife, but the wives of the other three men as well.

“I don’t know, but I’m fixing to find out!” Brett said, putting on a brave face and venturing off on his own, leaving his wife in the living room. Corbin, Henry and Lex soon followed, not wanting to be outdone by the surgeon. The women looked cautiously at the tray of champagne flutes on the mantle, already filled, wanting to quench their throats, parched from the anxiety, and needing something to do with their hands other than just twiddle their thumbs.

“Oh to hell with it,” Trudy says, walking over to the mantle. She takes a glass off the tray and after eyeing it curiously, as though she had the ability to see if it were poisoned just by looking at it, and then took a huge sip. Then she looked around at the other women, all dressed in remarkably similar body hugging black dresses, just a finger too high above the knee, obviously their interpretation of intimate, and she opened her big beautiful green eyes. “Well?” she said.

Eliza, Mercia and Sarah each took a glass, handling it as though it were going to explode. They all watched each other as they brought the glasses to their perfect red lips, all the same shade so that they look like they were made up by the same person. Crimson Tide just happened to be the in color that spring.

“So what do ya’ll think is going on here?” Trudy asked, electing herself to the position of leader the same way she did at the annual charity golf day, or at the summer polo event, or at country club meetings to discuss how they, the privileged, would help the less fortunate get through winter. None of the three women knew Trudy that well, but that was because they didn’t want to. She was a busybody who seemed intent to steal the limelight every chance she got.

She also thought that her husband, Lex, a rancher with oil interests, was the richest man in Savanah. Trudy wasn’t wrong on this account!

“I don’t know, all I know is that it’s more than a little bit creepy, and Henry better get back soon so we can get out of here. Something just doesn’t feel right…” Eliza spoke now, looking around and shuddering like she felt eyes on her, or another presence in the room. The women were all aged twenty-four and twenty-five, with their husbands older. Eliza, Mercia and Sarah, all petite cutout blondes, all twenty-five, breathtakingly beautiful in their own unique ways, were married to men ten years their seniors. Trudy, a fiery redhead with a personality to match, at twenty-four, found herself married to the forty-four-year old Lex Hewing.

“Now look at us getting all worked up over nothing,” Sarah tried to be the voice of reason. “They probably had a good reason to pop out for a minute. They left their front door open, and they did put out champagne. We’re gonna feel right silly in a second when they come walking through that door with a perfectly logical explanation.” She gulped the remainder of her champagne down, not believing a word she just said!

  Chapter Two

Henry and Lex were the first to discover the little gifts left for them. Gold card with their names on them. They were in different parts of the house so they didn’t know that each has found this piece of stationary. The one side had their name printed neatly, and on the other side was another name. On the back of Henry’s card was printed, in italics, Trudy. And on the back of Lex’s card, Eliza, also in italics. They both wondered what the fuck was going on and went and try to find each other in the house.

Corbin found his card too, propped up neatly against a windowsill in the study. Sarah’s name was printed on its back, and he too scratched his head. Brett walked past his card four times in the kitchen, against the microwave, and when he finally saw it he just stared at it. Unsure why his name was printed on a gold card in the house, he was scared to pick it up. Then the other three men, having passed their wives in the living room, were standing in the kitchen, all holding similar cards to the one Brett still refused to pick up.

“Pick it up,” Lex said, and Brett did. On the back of his card, printe
d in similarly neat italics, was Mercia.

They all turned their cards around to show whose name was on the other side, Lex looking angrily at Henry. Henry just laughed, wondering at the game the owners of this house were playing. He just raised his hand, a gesture that let Lex know that he was just as confused by this as he was. Then Brett’s phone rang, and after a moment, he motioned with his head for the other men to join him outside.

Once outside, out of earshot of the women, he put his phone on speaker. “I’ve been watching you,” said a voice that they don’t recognize. It was a deep voice, no attempt to disguise it, but it was a man’s voice nonetheless. They looked at each other, wondering what this man might have seen while he watched them. They knew that they hadn’t touched each other’s wives, so this can’t be it. Still they were all equally nervous at the promise of an accusation that would see them in one hell of a tussle.

“I’ve seen how you look at each other’s wives, some of you more than others, some of your wives returning these looks more than the others. So I have decided to give you this gift, and I trust you will not only enjoy it, but if you indulge in it. I trust also that you will keep this a secret. Now, all you have to do is convince your wives to play along, and if you don’t mind, I’ll be watching.” Then the phone went quite, with the four men not looking at each other anymore, instead looking at Brett’s phone and then at the cards that they were still all clutching in their hands.

Their minds were racing, all of them quiet. Everybody entertained the possibility just for a second, and then a minute. Then they were lost in thoughts of the woman whose name was written on the back of their cards. It was true that they had all let their eyes wander, and that they had all looked with a special interest at the woman assigned to each of them. The voice on the phone has really been watching them, and he has been watching them close enough to notice these stolen, lingering glances.

Brett, being the most practical, thought of how he could have done this. He thought of what devices he could have used to monitor them so closely. He thought that it must be somebody that they know, somebody that knew all of them intimately, but he could not think of anybody. They shared no close acquaintances, not at all, so that Brett knew in that part of his head that just did that this was not the case. He did wonder though how a total stranger could just come into their lives and watch them without he himself being seen, and how a total stranger could plant a seed that would take root so quickly.

Henry thought of the fiery redhead on his card as though she had already agreed, as though her husband had agreed. He had watched her, too closely, but he had always thought that this was in secret. Henry noticed that her milky skin was dotted with the lightest of freckles, freckles that seemed to touch her in places he now wished he could explore. He got a little hard, covering his hardness with his hand until he was sure of what the others were thinking.

Corbin was looking at Brett, whose wife’s name was printed on the back of his card. While his own wife, whose name was on the back of Brett’s card, looked not too dissimilar to Sarah, there was just something more about Brett’s wife. Her lips were fuller, her ass rounder and perkier. Her breasts were just that little bit bigger, and he imagined, yes he let himself go there, that her pussy was just that little bit tighter. He was also getting hard, so that he wanted to ask everybody what they thought about this proposal. But he definitely didn’t want to appear too enthusiastic, Brett standing right next to him.

Lex had a grin on his face that betrayed his thoughts and Henry wasn’t sure whether to deck him, or shake on it and go inside and get this party started. He was looking at the name on his card, and the slightest glimmer of saliva could be seen on his lips. He licked his lips and then looked at Henry for the first time, asking him with his eyes what he thought of this suggestion. While Henry was asking him the same thing, neither of them uttered the words, and so neither man really knew what the other is thinking!

  Chapter Three

They went and found their wives in the living room, Trudy in true Trudy fashion having found and opened another bottle of champagne. The women were not nervous anymore, not even Eliza, but they were still not really comfortable being in this house in the absence of their hosts. Sarah looked up as Brett walked in, and knowing her husband, she knew that he had something on his mind.

“What is it honey?” she asked as Brett came up to her and took the glass from her hand, pouring all of the champagne into his mouth and swallowing hard.

“What have you got there,” Trudy asked Lex, looking at the gold card in his hand. Brett didn’t answer his own wife, happy that the responsibility of explaining this strange situation had been passed on. Mercia and Eliza looked at their own husbands, clutching gold cards, and then the four women looked at each other after Sarah too had seen Brett’s. Corbin laughed loudly, a forced uncomfortable laugh, but the three men with him laughed too. They figured that they would try to use humor, try to brush off this stranger’s instructions with humor, just in case their wives saw this as an insult.

Eliza put her hand out, making the connection between the look on Henry’s face and the card in his hand. He handed her the card slowly, looking at Lex, who handed his card to Trudy. Both women looked at their husband’s names printed on the card, and then looked up at their husbands for an explanation. “Turn it around,” Lex said to Trudy, and both women turned the cards over. When the implication of what was written on them registers, they looked at each other, Trudy and Eliza locked in a state that had more questions than answers.

Brett and Corbin handed over their cards too, and they braced themselves for the possible retaliations from their own wives. Sarah seemed to be calm though, Mercia too, just wanting to know really what this meant. Then all of the women, after looking at each other, looked at the men standing in front of them, trying to read them for a response that would be the catalyst to their own. But nobody was giving anything away, all of them it seemed, waiting for the other to make the first move.

The stalemate was enough to drive anybody over the edge, the tension in the room so thick you would need a chainsaw to slice through it. They knew that they have not been in each other’s company enough for this to mean that there was anything going on with each other’s spouses, at least the women knew this. The men knew what was up though, but they wanted the women to process this first. But how could they, when they were still confused about what it is that is actually going on?

“Is this?” Sarah started to ask.

“I think so,” Brett responded, thinking he knew what she was about to ask.

“What?” Eliza asked, still as clueless as Trudy and Mercia.

“It’s a swinger’s party, and the names on the cards are the people that are supposed to swing with each other.” Corbin decided to put everyone out of their misery.

Mercia and Eliza registered shock, Trudy’s usually animated face difficult to read, and Sarah was the calmest, most measured female in the room. She just kept looking from her husband to Corbin, the women having swopped cards now so that they knew who they have each been assigned to.

Henry’s eyes fell repeatedly on Trudy, anxious to know what was going to happen. The redhead really was very attractive, and he wanted to, if everybody agreed, get her alone and naked now. Lex too was looking at Eliza, and then at Henry, and then they were both looking at Brett and Corbin who were still looking at their wives. Somebody really needed to say something or else everyone in the room would explode for all the tension and apprehension in the room now.

“If we do this,” Lex said suddenly, “If we do this, it doesn’t leave this house!” He really wanted to do this, and he could no longer hide his excitement at the prospect of Eliza. She too was looking at the oil man with different eyes now, thinking that, if they were going to keep it a secret anyway, she wouldn’t mind having a go in the hay with the older, vibrant man. Still though, she looked cautiously at her husband, wanting to know what he thought of all this.

  “If we
re going to do this,” Trudy said, looking at Henry, “We don’t even speak of this to each other after. We don’t really know each other, so it is just like we will be fucking total strangers with our partner’s permission!” She looked at the other women for consensus, but they were still trying to process this situation. Trudy obviously really wanted to feel the power of a younger man between her thighs, and if this was the only opportunity she would get, then so be it. She was not about to let this chance slip through her little fingers.

Mercia and Sarah looked at each other and then at their husbands. There had been an awful lot of looking around in the room in the last five minutes. Both of them could always read their husbands very well, and today was no different. They sensed the curiosity in them, the slight excitement at the possibility. And so, after giving each other the nod, Mercia went and stood next to Brett, Sarah taking her place next to Corbin, and their approval was written all over their faces so that they didn’t need to say anything. Eliza looked at Lex, who wanted to come close to her but they still hadn’t agreed.

When Henry extends a hand to Trudy though, it is obvious that all were in agreement, and they took their individual assignments and went and found a room.
